February 2025

February 2025 is in the books, and to be honest, I am grateful. The February I had in mind and the February that happened were vastly different. Not to be a Debbie Downer - there were lots of amazing moments along the way as well, but in terms of living life by my values…this month left me feeling a bit empty. I was in pure reactionary mode 99% of the time, didn’t make progress on my goals outside of work, and frankly wouldn’t be proud if this was my last month on Earth - there wasn’t enough play, community, or creation. Also I had a near death experience, read about it in the highlights section 🙃.
I am always grateful for months like this because they root me in wanting to do better, give me appreciation for the highs, and ultimately push me to feel more. I don’t say this in a lens of toxic positivity — just genuine belief that there’s beauty even in the months when you stray from yourself. They force you to pause, reflect, and course-correct.
Who am I again? I am Brett Bejcek. I live by my top values of Exploration, Iteration, and Connection. Exploration is what I do; I do it through iteration; and I do it to create more connection. These days, I spend a lot of time working on a startup, Limitless. It is my main priority. Outside of work, I am prioritizing physical health, (re)building community, and cultivating creativity through interesting weekend projects.
An ask for you. Have any user research or data science tips for early stage startups? Collecting my thoughts in a book and would love to feature you. Hit me up 🙂.
Fun Metrics. A peek into my life—some tied to goals, others just for fun. Because I’m not a business, I’m a silly human.

Highlights of February:
  • Do you have friends that make you feel loved and make you feel alive? I really hope you do. I got to spend a week working from Mexico with Jake and Ishani (both also founders as well). We were grinding out our best and worked our butts off - everyone going through quite hectic times personally and professionally. The beauty is we still found time for late night hangs, fits of uncontrollable laughter, and big life chats - the kind that remind me what real friendship feels like.
  • Type 2 Fun Alert 🚨. Whilst on a hike in Baja, I really pushed myself…a little too hard. The entire hike was a full scramble, and as someone who’s 6’8” with questionable balance, I was a classic scaredy-cat all the way up and a total butt-scooter all the way down. At one point, I lost my footing and ended up face-down on a rock, sliding backward toward a crevasse I couldn’t even see properly. Panic set in. I kept slipping, completely unsure of what was below me. I thought to myself “welp this is how I go.” I just kept on slipping. Just as I was resigning myself to my fate, I heard Jake’s voice. He spotted me—half-slid, half-sprawled—and came over, assuring me that I was going to be okay. With a well-timed grab (and definitely a chuckle on his end), he pulled me back from what felt like certain doom. Turns out the crevasse was only 3 feet deep - whoopsies. Funny thing about fear—it magnifies obstacles, making them seem way bigger than they actually are. It got me thinking about where fear guides my decisions vs. where love does. May you be guided by love more often in your own life.
  • I was convinced I saw aliens. Okay, I don’t actually believe that aliens have ever visited Earth, but that’s besides the point. My eyes and my brain can disagree. As we were en route back to our place in Loreto, we saw a bright light behind the clouds. “Wow, crazy that the full moon can be that bright,” I uttered. Only then did I realize that the moon was actually behind me. All three of us in the cars suddenly had our mouths agape and we immediately pulled over to see the spectacle. An insanely large orange orb streaked across the sky. At first, we thought it was a shooting star, but it lasted minutes, growing even brighter. Then, it faded into nothing. Aliens. It had to be. Nope, as I got back a quick google search revealed it was just SpaceX. Ugh. I am just really miffed at this whole situation because it is not my first time being duped by Elon. Last time was at Mt. Baker in Washington a few years back with the EXACT SAME CREW OF PEOPLE. Elon had it out for us. We were in a remote part of the mountain with no one around for miles. All of a sudden green lasers broke out across the mountain and a string of glowing lights illuminated the sky - almost like a strand of pearls. I made us each record our voice notes separately about what happened and we spent the next 2 days up in the mountains without human contact wondering if aliens had made it to earth. After returning, a quick conversation with Jake’s mom revealed it was Starlink. So while Starlink explained the lights, to this day, we still have no idea what those green lasers were. Which means… aliens? Probably.
Lowlights of February:
  • Anxiety. It’s always in the background. 99/100 days, there’s a knot in my stomach from the pressure. I’m grateful for how it pushes me, but also aware of the toll it takes.
  • Reactionary nature. I will always prioritize work over anything else. I don’t know if it’s the right call, but it’s how I am wired. It makes it hard for me to show up consistently for myself and others. Again, working on it. Awareness is the first step.
  • I didn’t create much. My inner child feels deprived. I owe him more and I will do better.
How did I do on my goals last month?
Not great. ❌’s galore. I give myself a 1/10 because I only have so much energy, and this month, I did a poor job of keeping my cup full.

On the first of every month I do a little self-audit and put it out into the world. Why? Accountability, reflection, and because life’s more fun when you share the messy middle.
