Who am I again? I am Brett Bejcek. I live by my top values of Exploration, Iteration, and Connection. Exploration is what I do; I do it through iteration; and I do it to create more connection. I am prioritizing physical health, building community, and cultivating creativity.
Fun Metrics. A peek into my life: some tied to goals, others just for fun. Because I’m not a business, I’m a silly human. And silly humans sometimes spend 30 minutes comparing pastries consumed instead of finishing their to-do list.

Fun lil’ memories

Highlights of June:
- Saying the quiet part at the salon. I gave a talk on fulfillment in the age of AI and finally named it: some AI-heavy projects leave me proud and others hollow, and effort isn't the variable. What separates them is whose decisions drove the work. The uncomfortable discovery was that I'd been outsourcing by joy, automating the parts I love and keeping the grind. I don’t have a perfect answer, but am excited to create guidelines for thoughtful interaction with AI.
- Office hours. I took more calls than ever this month helping students with their startups, and it was the most life-giving thing I did. The surprise: what I carry as scar tissue from my own company is someone else's map. In my hands it reads as sunk cost. Handed to a 20-year-old three weeks into their first idea, it's a shortcut. It's the lightest version of the work I've ever done, and the one that most reliably fills the tank.
- The first drop. Coasters at Cedar Point and Thorpe Park. I used to judge this as a little childish, something to age out of. But nothing brings a smile to my face like the first drop of a good coaster. Joy doesn't have to be sophisticated to count.
Lowlights of June:
- Did I get too harsh? There’s an old lyric: “Live in New York once, but leave before it makes you too hard.” Back in Seattle, people asked me for small things, directions, a seat swap so a couple could sit together, and I felt annoyed in a way I didn't used to. The irony stung: my best hours this month were the ones where I gave freely, and my worst reflex was bristling when someone asked me to. I caught it, which matters. But softness is a practice, not a default, and I want to practice before the callus sets.

On the first of every month I do a little self-audit and put it out into the world. Why? Accountability, reflection, and because life’s more fun when you share the messy middle.
