April 2025

Wow, what a month. If you’ve been tuning in, you’ll remember that March felt like a marathon through molasses: heavy, slow, and relentless. But April? April exhaled. It cracked the windows open, let the light back in, and reminded me that change doesn’t always roar: sometimes it whispers. The pendulum shifted; it invited me to realign, to sit with hard truths, and to start steering again with intention.
I’m not quite at full throttle yet—still somewhere between surviving and thriving—but I’m unmistakably moving forward. I wouldn’t call it full energy, not just yet. But I’ve felt flickers, moments of real aliveness, and after the numbness of March, those sparks feel like fireworks.
Who am I again? I am Brett Bejcek. I live by my top values of Exploration, Iteration, and Connection. Exploration is what I do; I do it through iteration; and I do it to create more connection. These days, I spend a lot of time working on a startup, Limitless. It is my main priority. Outside of work, I am prioritizing physical health, (re)building community, and cultivating creativity through interesting weekend projects.
Fun Metrics. A peek into my life: some tied to goals, others just for fun. Because I’m not a business, I’m a silly human.

Highlights of April:
  • Movement as medicine. I doubled my steps and significantly upped my workout time this month. Wild, right? A big part of that came from switching from Whoop back to Apple Watch: the novelty effect (and potentially Hawthorne effect) is real. But beyond the data, it felt genuinely good to move again, not from obligation but from desire. Also, if you are into friendly Apple Watch competitions, add me. I love this as a low-effort way to stay in touch with people and feel close to them.
  • The sun is magic. With more light in the mornings, I found it easier to get up and be present. It’s wild how much weather shapes wellbeing. Every time spring rolls around, I ask myself: Why do I live somewhere that gets so cold and dark? I’m genuinely considering spending Winter 2025 somewhere with more light. Have a rec for a city I should consider? Tell me: [email protected].
  • Legacy and reflection. My aunt’s celebration of life was incredible. Hearing the stories people told about her made me realize how many of my values are reflections of hers. It was touching, humbling, and made me feel deeply connected to my roots. Total waterworks. Total gratitude.
  • Pastries, Barry’s, and belonging. Sunday mornings with Dalton and Jess: starting at Barry’s and ending with pastries, became a new ritual. And there’s something about repetition that builds meaning. We think magic lives in novelty, but honestly? It also lives in routines that connect you to people and joy on a weekly basis.

Lowlights of April:
  • More ≠ Meaningful. When I feel momentum, especially after a low, I tend to swing hard in the other direction. I make plans, say yes to everything, fill my calendar with goals that sound like the “right” next chapter: more socializing, more output, more everything. But sometimes, in the pursuit of doing more, I forget to ask: Do I actually want this? This month reminded me that growth isn’t just about expanding: it’s also about pruning. Meaning comes not from doing it all, but from intentional choosing.
  • Creative Fatigue is Real. My creative energy still feels dormant. I’m not waking up full of wild ideas or rushing to the page. I’m learning to be okay with that. Maybe it’s not about forcing inspiration but about quietly rebuilding the reservoir. Rest can be its own form of preparation.

How did I do on my goals last month?
Much, much better. I’d give myself a 90/100. The only piece that didn’t click was creativity: side projects, playful building, that spark of “let’s try this just because.” I didn’t feel called to it, and honestly, I think I’m still recovering from a deeper creative energy drain. It’s like the well’s been low, and instead of forcing a bucket down, I’m learning to wait for the refill. That’s new, and very, very annoying/difficult for me…yet completely necessary.

On the first of every month I do a little self-audit and put it out into the world. Why? Accountability, reflection, and because life’s more fun when you share the messy middle.
